What Is Bentgrass and How Do I Control It?

Bentgrass is a low growing, fine-bladed grassy weed. Kept very short, it looks neat and uniform. But given the chance to grow freely, bentgrass turns into a dense, scraggly patch that can ruin an otherwise beautiful landscape.

GOOD FOR PUTTING GREENS, BAD FOR YARDS

Bentgrass is commonly used for putting greens, but not all homeowners want to practice short game in their backyards. The reality is, most bentgrass found in yards is uninvited and dedicated to pushing out desirable grasses. Left to its own devices, bentgrass will transform your entire landscape.

BENT ON STOPPING BENTGRASS

A great way to control bentgrass is by spot treating it with Roundup® Ready-To-Use Weed & Grass Killer III with Sure Shot® Wand. Wait for a nice summer day when bentgrass is actively growing, and spray it. Be careful — our products will kill any plant they come in contact with, including grass you want to keep. A week later, mow over the area and reseed. As always, make sure to follow the instructions on the label.
